This post is not meant to hurt any religious sentiments. It merely addresses an issue which has bothered me for quite some time.

An explosion,
blood and light;
Screams tear through the air,
An infant wails for its mother.
Innocence lies in shreds,
The cold earth churned with wine.
The Lord doth move in mysterious ways.

A million prayers,
“Keep my loved ones safe.”
A nightly ritual, undying faith.
Endless pilgrimages, blisters sore,
Guns drawn, shots fired,
Laughter wiped from the face of the earth.
Can I have an Amen?

Holy penance,
Rituals sucking common man dry;
A vague illusion propagated by man, “Have faith.”
A young girl, sold like meat.
Walks barefoot to the temple,
Garland in hand, a lifetime of pain hidden away.
May the Lord absolve you of your sins.

War after war,
Smoke bleaches our lungs,
Bullets rip through our veins.
Young voices silenced for eternity,
Young minds impeded in their quest for joy;
Our oceans slowly flood over with their blood.
The Lord has his reasons child.

  1. Great poem! I sometimes have questions like this, too. But my religion teaches that we all were told what we’d face in our individual lives, and made the decision to come to earth, anyway. I know I chose my trials, and I hate them, but I know that God will lead me through. What I say to my kids… is 4 less than, or more than. Why can’t you answer? Cuz you have nothing to compare it to. Without agony, fear, hopelessness, and hate, we wouldn’t be able to recognize all the great things in this world. Thank you if you actually cared enough to read this whole long comment! Keep up the great writing!

    1. Thank you so much for sharing your views with me! I would love nothing more than to have the kind of faith you have. The concept you believe in is rather beautiful and I hope for all of us, that it is true. πŸ™‚
      Your kind words mean a lot!

  2. lol I love how you had a little disclaimer at the beginning hehehehe. I can see your concern. A lot of people seem to be really confused between severing God and serving religion. There are two different things. People think they are using God for they own purpose but they just using a name, no God. Bad people will get what they deserve if they don’t change that is all I can say on this. :/
